Into That Dark Night by YadVashem, This CD-ROM offers a unique, multimedia exploration of the first six years of the Nazi regime and the experience of German Jewry during that time. While traditional accounts typically focus on either German or Jewish history in the period from 1933 to 1939, "Into That Dark Night uses textual, audio, and visual sources to create a powerful, interactive presentation integrating both sides of the story. The tale of German Jewry in those years--a tale of persecution and the struggle for survival--is intertwined with that of the rise and consolidation of the Nazi regime. From this dual perspective emerges a fuller understanding of the realities behind the Holocaust. In addition to its narrative component, "Into That Dark Night features a library/archive section that allows users to delve deeper into the subjects presented. The archive contains some 450 primary documents and 400 original photographs. The library includes dozens of annotated research articles, a timeline, an illustrated lexicon, maps, diagrams, and graphs. The CD-ROM includes both PC and Macintosh versions of the program. The requirements for running the program on a PC are O/S Windows 95, 98, or NT Pentium Processor 233 or higher; at least 64 MB RAM; a Soundblaster compatible sound card; screen resolution of 640 x 480 pixels; 16 bit (Hi color) screen color depth; and 7 MB available HD space.
